SAN DIEGO 16 décembre 2024 :EDF Renouvelables Amérique du Nord a annoncé aujourd’hui la mise en service du parc solaire de Morris Ridge qui a commencé à fournir de l’électricité à l’État de New York. La New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) a attribué à Morris Ridge un contrat long terme dans le cadre de l’appel d’offres 2018 Renewable Energy Standard Solicitation. 

Le parc solaire de Morris Ridge, d’une capacité de 229 mégawatts (MWdc) / 177 MWac, est situé dans la ville de Mount Morris et joue un rôle important dans l’objectif de l’État de New York de produire 70% de son électricité à partir d’énergies renouvelables d’ici 2030. Le projet a déjà eu un impact positif sur les communautés locales, dont celles de Mount Morris et du comté de Livingston, grâce aux retombées financières et aux opportunités d’emplois pendant les phases de développement et de construction. 

Les travaux de construction du parc de Morris Ridge Solar ont employé jusqu’à 550 personnes, avec plus de 22 millions de dollars de salaires versés. Au-delà des contributions financières prévues de 18,6 millions de dollars pour le territoire et les services publics au cours de sa durée de vie, le projet a également représenté plus de 70 millions de dollars de retombées pour l’économie new-yorkaise à travers des achats de matériaux, services, main-d’œuvre et autre.

EDF Renewables North America Announces Commercial Operation of Morris Ridge Solar Project

 EDF Renewables North America (EDFR) today announced Morris Ridge Solar project is fully operational and delivering electricity to the New York power grid. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) awarded Morris Ridge a long-term contract as part of the 2018 Renewable Energy Standard Solicitation.

The Morris Ridge Solar Project, with a capacity of 229 megawatts (MWdc) / 177 MWac, is situated in the Town of Mount Morris and plays a crucial role in supporting New York State’s target of generating 70% of its electricity with renewable energy by 2030. The project has already had a positive impact on the local community, including Mount Morris and Livingston County, by offering procurement and employment opportunities during its development and construction phases.

At its peak, Morris Ridge Solar provided jobs for 550 people, resulting in over $22 million in union wages.  Beyond the projected financial contributions of $18.6 million to the County, Town, School and Fire Districts over its operational life, the project also injected more than $70 million into the New York economy through expenditures for materials, services, labor, and various other expenses.

EDF Renouvelables a signé un contrat d’achat d’électricité long terme (PPA) avec la Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) lors d’une cérémonie officielle organisée à Riyad pour développer les parcs solaires de MASA’A (1 000 MW) et Al Henakiyah2 (400 MW), en présence du prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, ministre de l’Energie d’Arabie saoudite, Emmanuel Macron, président de la République française, Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, ministre du Commerce et de l’Investissement d’Arabie Saoudite, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, ministre française de la Transition énergétique, Béatrice Buffon, directrice exécutive Groupe EDF en charge de la direction internationale et présidente-directrice générale d’EDF Renouvelables et Mazin Albahkali, CEO de SPPC. Les deux projets devraient alimenter en électricité plus de 240 000 foyers et éviter l’émission de plus de 2,7 millions de tonnes de CO2 chaque année.

Avec un investissement estimé à 850 millions de dollars (environ 810 millions d’euros), ces projets font appel à l’expertise des deux leaders mondiaux des énergies renouvelables, EDF Renouvelables pour la France et SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development Company (SPIC HHDC) pour la Chine. La centrale solaire MASA’A devrait entrer en service en 2027 et la centrale solaire Al Henakiyah2 devrait être connectée au réseau fin 2026.

Riyadh, December 5th, 2024: EDF Renewables has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) during an official signing ceremony held in Riyadh in the presence of HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia, Emmanuel Macron, President of Republic of France, HE Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, Minister of Commerce of Saudi Arabia, Agnes Pannier-Runacher, Minister of Ecological Transition,Energy, Climate and Risk Prevention in France witnessing, and Beatrice Buffon, EDF Group Vice-President, International Division, and Chairwoman & CEO of EDF Renewables and Mazin Albahkali, CEO of SPPCsignatories of the Power Purchase Agreement for the  development of the 1,000 MW Al Masa’a and the 400 MW Al Henakiyah2 solar power parks. Once operational, both projects are expected to power more than 240 thousand homes per year and displace more than 2.7 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.

The projects, estimated to cost US$ 850 million, leverage the expertise of global renewables leaders, France’ EDF Renewables and China’ SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development Company. The Al Masa’a solar power plant is expected to enter under operation in Q2 2027, while the Al Henakiyah2 solar plant is expected to reach financial close in early 2025 and connect to the grid in Q4 2026.

With plans to boost the local economy, at least 21 percent of the equipment, materials and services will be provided by Saudi companies during the construction phase.

The 400 MW Al Henakiyah2 Solar Plant is located 36km southeast of Al Henakiyah Town in the Madinah province. The 1,000 MW Al Masa’a project is located in the Dharghat Town, Hail province, Saudi Arabia

Set to be flagship solar plants in the Kingdom, the projects will be developed, built, owned and operated by the consortium as part of a 25-year agreement with the off-taker SPPC. Both solar parks will help to achieve the target of increasing the share of the renewables in the country’s energy mix to around 50% by 2030, while boosting the local employment.

Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm generates first power

Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) wind farm, located 15.5km off the coast of Fife, is now generating power into the national grid.

This marks a significant milestone in the project's development, helping Scotland and the UK move towards achieving their net zero targets.

When complete, the wind farm will consist of 54 wind turbines generating up to 450 MW of clean, green electricity, enough to power around 375,000* homes. NnG, which is owned by EDF Renewables UK and ESB, will offset over 400,000* tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.

NnG is expected to be completed and fully commissioned by summer 2025. Over the coming months, all 54 turbines will be commissioned.

It has also made great impact within the supply chain locally and wider in Scotland, working with local businesses where possible. This includes Forth Ports at the Port of Dundee, I&H Brown, Briggs Marine and Muir Construction Ltd.

The Operations and Maintenance Base overlooking Eyemouth Harbor continues to embed itself in the local community. There are 27 employees currently working there, many of them local, to bring the project online, and over the 25-year lifespan, around 50 high-quality jobs will be created and based there.

  • Completion of all drilling and the installation of 54 foundation jackets.
  • Installation of three sub stations, two offshore and one onshore at Crystal Rig wind farm in the Lammermuir Hills.
  • Load out of components from the Port of Dundee on the Blue Tern vessel and installation of the first turbines.

Scotland – Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm has started generating electricity

The Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm, located 15.5km off the coast of Fife, Scotland, has started feeding electricity into the National Grid.

This success is an important milestone in the development of this project which will contribute to achieving the carbon neutrality objectives of Scotland and the UK.

With an installed capacity of 450 MW, the 54 wind turbines in the park will produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of around 375,000 homes.[1]The NnG offshore wind farm, owned by EDF Renewables and ESB, will prevent the emission of 400,0001 tons of CO2 per year.

Full commissioning of NnG is planned for summer 2025. Over the coming months, the 54 wind turbines will be gradually started up.

The project has benefited local suppliers and Scotland more widely by providing work for local businesses, including Forth Ports at the Port of Dundee, I&H Brown, Briggs Marine and Muir Construction Ltd.

Currently, 27 people are working at the operations and maintenance base at Eyemouth Harbour to commission the wind farm. The base will eventually accommodate around 50 skilled jobs to operate and maintain the farm for 25 years.

EDF Renewables and the National School of Bridges and Roads inaugurate a master's degree dedicated to energy transition professions

EDF Renouvelables and the École nationale des ponts et chaussées (ENPC) have signed a partnership agreement for the creation of an engineering training program specializing in the field of renewable energies. This strategic collaboration aims to meet the growing need for expertise in energy transition professions.

The agreement provides for the establishment of a specialty within the Master's degree in "Energy" at the École nationale des ponts et chaussées, focusing on the engineering and exploitation of renewable energies. This course, structured around nine modules, will allow students to acquire multidisciplinary technical, economic and scientific expertise as well as the tools for managing complex projects, risks and quality.

The modules can be followed over two years (M1 and M2) or concentrated in a single year (M2). This year of M2 will be completed by courses from the “Energy Transition and Territories” course in order to ensure that the development of renewable energies is consistent with the challenges of energy sobriety and governance of the territories of the transition.

EDF Renewables experts will be involved in this course to share their know-how and experience. Other professionals and researchers from the School will complete the teaching team for this new specialty.

EDF Renouvelables has decided to support the creation of this specialty within the Master's degree in "Energy" at the École nationale des ponts et chaussées in order to contribute to the training of competent professionals throughout the project life cycle and to support the emergence and structuring of new industrial sectors. These offer numerous job opportunities in areas such as the design, operation and maintenance of means of production, storage and transmission of renewable energies.

For the École nationale des ponts et chaussées, this project is fully consistent with the strengthening of its research and training capacities on issues related to the socio-ecological transition in close collaboration with industrial stakeholders.

It makes it possible to develop unused land and helps support the region in its energy transition.

Located in the commune of Habsheim, the plant, with a surface area of 23 hectares and a total capacity of 30 MWc, is composed of approximately 53,000 photovoltaic panels. It produces the equivalent of the electricity consumption of approximately 15,000 people, or three times the population of the commune.
After winning the call for tenders from the airport joint syndicate in autumn 2018, the plant obtained its building permit in 2020. After the ground preparation work, the first photovoltaic panel was installed in December 2022 for production to begin on 9 February 2024. The construction of this plant enabled the creation of a maintenance antenna for the photovoltaic plants in Ottmarsheim, the Fontaine aeropark and the Mulhouse-Habsheim aerodrome. As part of the Fessenheim territorial project, it was the winner of the CRE photovoltaic call for tenders specific to Haut-Rhin

Developed in conjunction with the joint union and users of the Mulhouse-Habsheim aerodrome as well as the municipality of Habsheim, the plant has integrated biodiversity and aeronautics issues from its design. It was designed to guarantee safety on the aerodrome while respecting the easement plan. Environmental studies carried out by independent design offices have made it possible to define the appropriate measures for preserving biodiversity on the site. The presence of a protected plant species located to the north of the plant has given rise to the installation of markings, the installation of a fence and awareness-raising among stakeholders.

In the Grand Est region, EDF Renouvelables operates eight solar power plants with a cumulative capacity of around 280 MWc as well as 26 onshore wind farms (424 MW).

Photowatt could join the CARBON project for the French photovoltaic sector

Bourgoin-Jallieu, September 19, 2024CARBON and EDF Renouvelables have reached a draft agreement on the sale of the company Photowatt, a historic industrial player in the manufacture of photovoltaic panels. According to this agreement, Photowatt would be integrated into the industrial project led by CARBON and would thus be part of the dynamic development in France of a sovereign, sustainable and competitive solar sector. 

CARBON wants to make Photowatt a key building block in its industrial project, complementary and ahead of its gigafactory in Fos-sur-Mer, which will be commissioned at the end of 2026. CARBON's project to take over Photowatt includes a major investment plan of €40 million with the creation of a photovoltaic module production unit with a capacity of 500 MWc, the equivalent of one million solar panels per year. Commissioning is planned before the end of 2025. The project plans to maintain jobs at the Bourgoin-Jallieu site and increase their number to 200 by 2026.

This production unit would allow CARBON to accelerate its commercial presence and meet the increase in demand for photovoltaic panels. Made in France, particularly in the dynamic residential solar market. It would also have a pilot function, allowing the testing, testing and optimization of module production processes (automation, robotization, digitalization, etc.).

EDF Renouvelables, owner of Photowatt since its takeover in 2012, had been looking for several months for an industrial partner with an ambitious, credible and coherent project for the company in order to promote the know-how of its 170 employees. Thanks to this draft agreement, CARBON and EDF are positioning Photowatt as a central pillar of the industrial development of photovoltaics in France. The EDF Group is committing to CARBON on an agreement for the supply of photovoltaic panels in order to support this new production Made in France. " EDF Renewables considers that the Photowatt takeover project proposed by Carbon would be likely to give new impetus to Photowatt, sustain the company's activity and secure jobs on the site," says Bruno Fyot, Deputy CEO of EDF Renewables.

EDF Renewables, Korea Western Power Co (KOWEPO) and Masdar announce Financial Close of Al Ajban Solar PV project in Abu Dhabi, one of the World's Largest Solar Power Plants launched by EWEC

  • 1.5 gigawatt (GW) solar power plant in Al Ajban province received financing from six top-tier banks and financial institutions
  • 3 million solar panels using advanced bifacial technology will be installed to generate enough power for 160,000 UAE households

Abu Dhabi, September 17, 2024: The project company, led by EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), alongside their partner Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, announced today the successful financial closing of the 1.5 gigawatt (GW) AC Al Ajban Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Independent Power Producer (IPP) project in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. 

Following a successful bid submission, the project company owned by EDF Renewables and KOWEPO (20% stake each) as lead members, and Masdar as local shareholder (60% stake) signed a 30-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), and will design, finance, build and operate the plant.

Financing for the project has been secured from six top-tier banks and financial institutions: BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole CIB, Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC Middle East, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM).

The state-of-the-art project, located approximately 70 kilometers North-East of Abu Dhabi city, will have a capacity of 1.5GW. Once fully commissioned in Q3 2026, the Al Ajban Solar PV IPP will be one of the world's largest single-site solar power plants, deploying approximately 3 million solar panels mounted on single-axis trackers to generate enough electricity for approximately 160,000 homes across the UAE . Upon full commercial operation, the plant is expected to reduce Abu Dhabi's CO2 emissions by more than 2.4 million tons per year.

The Al Ajban Solar PV power plant is part of the UAE Net-Zero by 2050 strategic initiative and is the third utility–scale solar park in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, making the Emirate a pioneer in renewable energy deployment.
