Our ambition throughout the world: to develop, build and operate wind farms with the territories.
By using the force of winds of 10 to 90 km/h, wind energy produces carbon-free electricity from 80 to 90% of the time. Sustainable asset for the energetic transition, the rapid development of wind energy over the last ten years has enabled it to establish itself as a mature, reliable and competitive energy source. Between 2010 and 2021, the cost of producing wind energy has been divided by 3.
Always designed with local stakeholders and integrating the environmental issues of the territories, a wind project is also a driver of economic development for the local authorities : economic benefits during construction sites, creation of long-term jobs for maintenance, etc.
Did you know that a wind farm of 10 wind turbines (20 MW) produces the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 27,000 inhabitants.
EDF Renewables is a key player in wind energy in France and internationally. A 100 % subsidiary of the EDF Group, we benefit fromrecognized expertise in the development, construction and operation of complex energy projects. Our ambition throughout the world: to develop competitive, responsible and value-creating wind farm projects, in collaboration with territorial actors.
Build responsible projects linked to the territory.
Propose competitive and value-creating projects.
Support local stakeholders in carrying out tailor-made renewable energy projects.
Made up of 35 wind turbines, the project was commissioned in 2016. Located in Occitanie, it provides the equivalent of the consumption of 120,000 people annually. The wind turbines are equipped with “stealth” blades: a technical innovation, carried out in partnership with the wind turbine manufacturer, allowing them not to interfere with Météo France radar located nearby.

The largest wind farm in the Middle East, the Dumat Al Jandal wind farm also concentrates numerous innovations. Equipped with foundations specifically designed for this desert site, the 99 wind turbines produce the equivalent of the annual consumption of 70,000 Saudi households and help avoid the emission of 988,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

FOCUS
25 years is the average operating life of a wind farm. The renewal of wind turbines, also called repowering, constitutes an important lever for optimize renewable electricity production at the windiest sites And sustain local economic benefits for communities.
Thus, on our Petit-Canal wind farm in Guadeloupe, repowering operations have made it possible to increase the total power of the park, while halving the number of installed wind turbines.
At the end of its operating life, the wind turbine is dismantled and sent to specific recycling channels. More than 90% of the total mass of the wind turbine is recyclable or reusable. The concrete foundation can be removed and crushed for use as a road underlay. Certain components of the masts or nacelles can be reused or recycled in specific sectors. Concerning the blades, made of composite materials, they are the subject of much research and the first recyclable blades are appearing on the market.
