Our ambition throughout the world: to develop, build and operate solar power plant projects with a future for the regions.
A true pillar of the energy transition throughout the world, Solar energy is today a reliable and efficient solution. Between 2010 and 2021, technological progress has made it possible to reduce the cost of electricity from solar sources by 7.
Adapted to multiple geographies and easily deployable, solar energy is an opportunity for communities wishing to reconvert degraded sites such as abandoned industrial and motorway sites, wastelands or even old landfills.
Thanks to our capacity for innovation, we are accelerating the development and integration of our solar projects : improvement of panel performance, identification and exploitation of new installation areas (floating solar, agrivoltaics, etc.), co-use within the framework of eco-pasture projects.
Did you know ? An 18 hectare solar power plant, or around 99,000 panels (12MW), can produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 6,000 inhabitants.
Subsidiary at 100% of the EDF group, we benefit from proven expertise in solar energy through projects in development, construction or operation in France and internationally. EDF Renewables deploys competitive, responsible, value-creating solar power plant projects and monitors the quality of its installations throughout their operation.
Throughout the world, we are present in dynamic areas such as the Middle East, Asia, North and South America.
In France, EDF is deploying the Solar Plan which aims to make the Group one of the leaders in this energy.
Building responsible projects linked to the territory
Propose competitive and value-creating projects
Support local stakeholders in carrying out tailor-made renewable energy projects.
Commissioned in 2019, the Aramon solar power plant is located on the site of a former thermal power plant. Symbol of the reconversion of a site hitherto focused on fossil fuels, the plant is made up of 14,000 solar panels and produces each year the equivalent of the consumption of 3,500 people.

Spanning over 20 km2 in the Abu Dhabi desert, the Al Dhafra Solar Power Plant is the largest solar power plant in the world. It can power the equivalent of 160,000 homes. A project that allows EDF Renewables to support the United Arab Emirates in their energy transition.

FOCUS
The installation of solar panels on artificial or unused water reservoirs is a sinnovative solution to accelerate the development of photovoltaic solar energy. Faced with the increasing scarcity of so-called “degraded” sites, this technology has several advantages: it offers new surfaces for the development of renewable energies, makes it possible to develop large bodies of water or even offers a second life to old industrial sites. like flooded gravel pits.
Launched in 2017, The EDF Solar Plan is a voluntary program of the Group in favor of the development of photovoltaics in France.
The Group thus mobilizes its resources and its land assets (land near its nuclear power plants, reconversion of industrial wastelands or sites being dismantled, development of floating photovoltaics on hydraulic works reservoirs, etc.). The Group also cooperates with manufacturers and public authorities to identify areas suitable for accommodating new photovoltaic solar installations.

Alongside “degraded” sites, agrivoltaism constitutes an additional means for the development of ground-based solar power. Photovoltaic installations are characterized as “agrivoltaic” when they contribute sustainably to the installation, maintenance or development of agricultural production. This, through the improvement of the potential and the agronomic impact, the adaptation to climate change, the protection against hazards or the improvement of the property‑be animal.
