The EDF group inaugurates the Aramon photovoltaic solar power plant and the “Cleantech Booster”, an accelerator for innovative Cleantech companies

Jean-Bernard Lévy, Chairman and CEO of the EDF group, in the presence of elected officials and representatives of local and regional public authorities, inaugurated a photovoltaic solar power plant and the Cleantech Booster, both located on the site of the former thermal power plant. of Aramon (Gard). These new installations contribute to the revaluation and reconversion of an industrial site which thus contributes to the energy transition and the economic development of the region.

Initiated in 2016, the Aramon photovoltaic power plant project was developed by EDF Renewables. With an installed capacity of 5 MWp, the plant has more than 14,000 bifacial photovoltaic modules, capable of absorbing solar radiation on both sides of the panels, thus improving electricity production. Over one year, its production is equivalent to the electricity consumption of nearly 3,500 Gardois.

This photovoltaic plant contributes to the EDF group's Solar Plan which aims to reach 30 % of market share in solar in France by 2035. It was the subject of a participatory financing campaign of €200,000, reserved for inhabitants of Gard and the six neighboring departments whose proposed yield is 5.5% per year over 4 years. The collection was a great success and marked a milestone in the development of the project by meeting the expectations of all local stakeholders.

The project is part of a sustainable approach. EDF and its subsidiary EDF Renouvelables are working on a revegetation project under the site's photovoltaic cells using local species and seeds to encourage the presence of small wildlife (martens, reptiles, etc.) and create wintering and storage sites. nesting. 96 % waste will be recovered in the ongoing process of deconstruction of the Aramon power station, the recovery of the land assets of the thermal park at the end of operation being a major issue for the EDF group.

Highlighted by the Ministry of Ecological and Inclusive Transition, these achievements are part of a more global approach initiated by EDF and its partners, Cleantech Vallée, and which was the subject of an Ecological Transition Contract (CTE), signed with the State in December 2018. Created by public and private partners, this association allows the territory to be included in future projects, driven by ecological and inclusive growth and job creators.

The Cleantech Booster accelerator in particular is intended to support local start-ups and SMEs to help them develop more quickly in an environment conducive to innovation. Several areas of work have already been identified, such as waste recovery, deconstruction and the development of renewable energies.

This program will give new life to the Aramon thermal power plant site where managers of start-ups, VSEs, SMEs and high-potential project leaders will be able to benefit from a quality work space and proximity to many large industries labeled “Cleantech. »

Jean-Bernard Lévy, Chairman and CEO of the EDF group said : " EDF is proud to support the Occitanie Region in its ambitious energy transition objectives. The reconversion of the Aramon site is emblematic of the joint work between public authorities, local and industrial stakeholders to take concrete action to revalorize the territories. By combining low-carbon energy production and the development of innovative solutions, this project is fully in line with the objectives of CAP 2030 from the EDF group which makes the fight against climate change its priority. »
