Villesèque wind farm: 15 years of low-carbon electricity production serving the region

Villesèque, October 2, 2023 – EDF Renewables is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Villesèque wind farm. Made up of 22 wind turbines and with an installed capacity of 50.6 MW, this park is the most powerful operated by EDF Renewables in the Aude department.

Located on a high plateau in the town of Villesèque-des-Corbières, this wind farm has produced 2 TWh since it was commissioned, the equivalent of the annual consumption of around a million people.

In 15 years, the park has also forged close links with local partners such as the Association Communale de Chasse Agréée Villesèque, which contributed to the creation of two water bases to provide a watering point for small game in period of drought. The Villesèque wind farm is home to a pair of golden eagles which have been breeding successfully since the park was commissioned. In 2023, GPS tags were installed on the eaglets,
guaranteeing the shutdown of the wind turbines as soon as the eaglets approach the machines, thus demonstrating EDF Renewables' commitment to the protection of local wildlife.

Didier Hellstern, Development Director of EDF Renewables, said : " We are happy to support the region for 15 years in its energy transition. The Villesèque wind farm is an exemplary model of the symbiosis between low-carbon electricity production, local economic development and environmental preservation. EDF Renewables warmly thanks all those who contributed to
this success during these 15 years ".
