Construction of the last phase of the C-Power offshore wind farm in Belgium begins

Following the successful commissioning of the second phase of the C-Power offshore wind farm at the end of 2012, EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the launch of the construction of the third phase of the project, representing 110.7 MW. Built in Belgium with its partners as part of the C-Power consortium, the park will ultimately have a total installed power of 325.2 MW.

Located approximately 30 kilometers off the coast of Zeebrugge, on the Thorntonbank sandbank, the wind farm offshore C-Power, which already has 215 MW in service, is starting construction of its third phase, corresponding to a power of 110.7 MW. The installation of the last eighteen turbines, with a unit power of 6.15 MW, supplied by REpower, should be finalized in the summer of 2013. The wind farm offshore of C-Power will then reach its full power with 325.2 MW installed.

A first pilot phase of 30 MW, made up of six turbines, has been in operation since June 2009, while a second phase of thirty turbines, totaling 184.5 MW, entered service at the end of December 2012.

EDF Energies Nouvelles holds a stake of 9.1 % in this park alongside a group of companies united within the Belgian consortium C-Power.

“ We are very satisfied to participate in this ambitious project, which is now entering its final phase.Taking part in this project allowed us to acquire know-how and strong experience in the development and construction of offshore wind farms, on which EDF Energies Nouvelles will be able to rely to carry out its future projects in France and abroad. England », declares Antoine Cahuzac, general manager of EDF Energies Nouvelles.
