Crowdfunding operations initiated by the EDF group to finance solar and wind projects in France have raised more than 7 million euros. This crowdfunding has been collected since 2015 thanks to the investment of 3,700 citizens in around thirty renewable energy projects. This innovative method of financing constitutes an essential lever to meet the growing demand from individuals to engage in the realization of renewable energy projects near their homes.
Meaningful, crowdfunding is a trend that is rapidly accelerating. Since the start of the year, nine collections have been launched by EDF Renewables, in partnership with crowdfunding operators: three for wind projects, two on land, one at sea, and six for solar projects. Among these operations, two are in progress: one contributes to the financing of the Vallée des Baux-Alpilles solar power plant, currently under construction (Bouches-du-Rhône), the other participates in the financing of the wind farm of Champ Gourleau, also under construction (Yonne).
These participatory investment campaigns are open primarily to local residents living near a renewable electricity production plant project, at the level of the municipality or department concerned. They can then extend to the regional scope. They most often occur during the construction phase of the power plant. Individuals, who invest an average amount of €1,500, thus have the opportunity to become players in the energy transition of their territory. Throughout the duration of their investment, approximately four years, they receive regular information on the progress of their project.
www.crowdfunding-edf.fr, a portal dedicated to participatory investments for the energy transition which extends the participatory innovation of the EDF Pulse and You site
Aware of the expectations of the French, EDF is launching www.crowdfunding-edf.fr, its portal dedicated to participatory investments by individuals in projects linked to the energy transition.
With this new portal, individuals will be able to view crowdfunding projects supported by the EDF group[1] and be redirected to the website of the crowdfunding operator carrying the project, where they will have access to detailed information on the proposed financing. The site references solar and wind power plant development projects but also soon other projects contributing differently to the energy transition, for example in the field of electric mobility or home comfort.
You, pushed by Internet users, will therefore be able to transform themselves into financeable projects through participatory investments in the future.
Nicolas Couderc, France Director of EDF Renewables said : " The wind and solar projects that we carry out are projects registered in a territory. They are developed and built in close collaboration with local stakeholders and residents. The success of our 38 crowdfunding campaigns demonstrates the confidence of local residents in the projects developed by EDF Renewables, but also their commitment to the energy transition. We are happy to be able to meet their expectations through these campaigns which finance low-carbon projects. »
Fabrice Gourdellier, Director of the EDF Individual Customers Market, said : " EDF is always innovating more for its customers, but also with its customers thanks to EDF Pulse & You. With this new portal dedicated to crowdfunding, EDF becomes a pioneer by being present at all stages of the participatory value chain: from the crowdsourcing of ideas to the crowdfunding of projects. »
All projects referenced on www.crowdfunding-edf.fr are supported by specialized crowdfunding operators with all the necessary certifications. These independent operators ensure the robustness of the projects proposed according to criteria of technical, regulatory and financial solidity. As with stock market investments, it is important to diversify your investments, not to invest everything in a single project. These investments may present illiquidity risks (risk of not being able to resell your investments to a third party) and risks of capital loss.
