At the end of a call for tenders launched by the public authorities, the Ministry of Ecological and Inclusive Transition chose the consortium led by the EDF Group, via its subsidiary EDF Renouvelables, in partnership with the companies Innogy and Enbridge, to ensure the design, construction and operation-maintenance of the future Dunkirk offshore wind farm.
This is the fourth project that the group has won as part of offshore calls for tenders launched by public authorities, after those won in 2012 in Saint-Nazaire, Fécamp and Courseulles-sur-Mer.
Located more than 10 km from the coast, the future Dunkerque park will have an installed capacity of nearly 600 MW. It will provide the equivalent of approximately 40% of the electricity needs of the Nord department. This project is at the heart of the economic, industrial, maritime and tourist development of Dunkirk and will create jobs in the region.
The consultation initiated with local stakeholders during the call for tenders phase will continue even more actively. As such, the partners plan to refer the matter to the National Commission for Public Debate in the coming months. The commissioning of the wind farm should take place in 2026.
Today's decision, as well as the judgment rendered by the Council of State on June 7 relating to the authorization to operate the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind project, allow EDF to open the way for marine energies in France .
The EDF Group is already a major player in offshore wind power in France and internationally. Its subsidiary EDF Renewables notably developed, built and operates the Blyth wind farm (42 MW) in the United Kingdom, is also continuing the development of the Scottish site of Neart na Gaoithe (450 MW) and is a shareholder in the C-Power wind farm in operation in Belgium (325 MW). With the award of Dunkerque, EDF Renewables has a project portfolio of more than 2 GW in France. Finally, it is in negotiations to enter into two projects in China totaling 500 MW and is developing an area in the United States with a potential of 2,500 MW off the coast of the state of New Jersey.
Jean-Bernard Lévy, Chairman and CEO of the EDF Group, declared: “ We welcome this decision by the Minister of Ecological and Inclusive Transition which confirms the quality of the work carried out by EDF and its partners. The award of the Dunkirk project makes the EDF Group one of the leaders in offshore wind power in Europe. It demonstrates EDF's anchoring in the territories and marks the consolidation of the offshore wind industrial sector in France. Thanks in particular to the competitiveness of this project, the government has announced its desire to double the objectives of offshore wind power in the Multi-annual Energy Program, which offers new development opportunities for EDF and all stakeholders. of the sector. »
