A crowdfunding campaign for the construction of Normandy's first offshore wind farm off the coast of Fécamp opens today to Norman individuals wishing to invest in a local project. The Norman Kiwaï platform, dedicated to the ecological transition, is offering savers, from January 18, the opportunity to invest in this renewable installation. The call for funds for this crowdfunding loan amounts to 750,000 euros in total.
Fécamp offshore wind farm: a future project for the region
Supported by EDF Renewables, EIH Sarl (a subsidiary of the Enbridge group) and wpd Offshore, the Fécamp offshore wind farm, with a capacity of nearly 500 MW, will be made up of 71 wind turbines located more than 13 km from the coast. As soon as it comes into service at the end of 2023, it will produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 770,000 people, or 60% of the inhabitants of Seine-Maritime. The Fécamp park is participating in the creation of the French industrial sector of renewable marine energies. All the projects for the construction of the park will mobilize more than 1,400 jobs in the region, between 2020 and 2023. The park will allow the creation of around a hundred local jobs during the operation of the park. A new profession in Normandy will emerge, that of offshore wind maintenance technician.
“ The realization of the Fécamp offshore wind farm is the result of a long-standing close collaboration between local stakeholders and the EDF Renewables-EIH-wpd Offshore consortium. Its construction began in spring 2020, the very day after the first deconfinement. It demonstrates a strong commitment from local authorities to the energy transition. We are happy today to allow local residents and residents of the Region to participate in the creation of this park through crowdfunding. They will thus contribute to the local dynamics, both economic and industrial, of the Region. », indicates, on behalf of the Fécamp offshore wind farm consortium, Bruno Bensasson, Chairman and CEO of EDF Renewables and Executive Director of the EDF Group in charge of the Renewable Energy Sector.
The Norman Kiwaï platform, dedicated to the ecological transition
Created at the end of 2019 by the Region and the Caisse d'Epargne Normandie, Kiwaï has just reached a milestone by opening crowdfunding for the Fécamp offshore wind farm to the tune of 750,000 euros.
The amount invested can range from €20 to a maximum of €2,000 per capable adult individual. This loan is guaranteed by Caisse d'Epargne Normandie and supported by the Normandy Region: the investment is therefore secure because the capital and accrued interest are guaranteed. In return, the lender will receive interest of 3% gross over 5 years (adjusted for the 30% tax deducted at source).
After already 8 projects financed, the crowdfunding platform is taking on a new dimension. Kiwaï will indeed allow a greater number of people to invest in a project emblematic of Normandy's energy transition, and this in a secure manner, with the Caisse d'Epargne Normandie guaranteeing the capital and accrued interest.
“Kiwaï has proven itself throughout the past year by showing that its innovative model was solid and that it met a real expectation on the part of the citizens of get involved in projects that speak to them. The Fécamp offshore wind farm gives us the opportunity to think bigger and contribute in a concrete and notable way to the development of renewable energies ", underlines Christophe Descos, president of Kiwaï.
Caisse d’Epargne Normandie, partner of Kiwaï
“I am proud that Caisse d’Epargne Normandie is a partner of Kiwaï. By guaranteeing the investments invested by lenders in the projects of this platform, it thus promotes circular savings which serve the development of its region. Being useful to Normandy also means supporting its energy transition,” precise Bruno Gore, Chairman of the Executive Board of Caisse d’Epargne Normandie.
An emblematic project for Normandy
“ Through Kiwaï we wanted to give Normans the opportunity to be active in sustainable development, by investing in projects for the region. By opening the offshore wind farm project off the coast of Fécamp to crowdfunding, the Normandy platform is continuing its mission and reaching a new milestone. The Normans now have the opportunity to take part in a very good project in favor of the energy transition, a factor of economic development for our territory and a source of jobs” welcomes Hervé Morin, President of the Normandy Region.
A fantastic opportunity for the Fécamp Caux Littoral Agglomeration
“The Fécamp offshore wind farm is a fantastic opportunity for the Fécamp Caux Littoral urban area. This project creates direct and indirect jobs and will generate significant economic benefits. This is a direction towards which the environmental policies we are implementing are moving. A new image also for our Agglomeration, resolutely focused on the energy transition.
The principle of this crowdfunding, initiated by the Caisse d'Epargne and the Normandy Region, is bold and innovative, like the offshore park project which has started. Through the Kiwaï platform, the inhabitants of the region have the opportunity to show their support for the production of renewable energies, to support this large-scale local project, and in a certain way, to make it their own” comments Marie-Agnès Poussier-Winsback, Mayor of Fécamp and President of the Fécamp Caux Littoral Agglomeration
