The EDF group is mobilizing and launching the Solar Plan to develop 30 GW of solar energy in France by 2035

On December 11, 2017, during a press conference, Jean-Bernard Lévy, Chairman and CEO of EDF, announced the launch of the Group's Solar Plan.

Between 2020 and 2035, the EDF group, through its subsidiary EDF Energies Nouvelles, aims to develop and build 30 GW of photovoltaic solar power in France, in addition to its other renewable energy development activities in France and internationally. . This volume represents four times the current solar energy production capacities in France1.

This ambition is consistent with the government objective of rebalancing the French electricity mix through the massive development of renewables in the territory. EDF's Solar Plan should also enable the creation of several tens of thousands of jobs in France during the construction period.2.

The EDF group will mobilize all the means at its disposal to ensure this accelerated pace of development:

  • Identification and exploitation of land from its land assets: land near nuclear power plants, reconversion of industrial wastelands or sites being dismantled, development of floating photovoltaics on hydraulic sites;
  • Provision of internal resources;
  • Mobilization of industrial and financial partners.

At the same time, EDF will cooperate with public authorities to identify areas suitable for accommodating new photovoltaic solar installations.

Jean-Bernard Lévy, Chairman and CEO of EDF, declared: “ This Solar Plan is of unparalleled scale and marks a real turning point in EDF's development in the field of solar energy. It concretizes the acceleration of our ambition displayed in the Group's CAP 2030 strategy, launched in 2015, which aims to double the Group's installed renewable capacities by 2030. Today, a new frontier is emerging for EDF for next fifteen years.»

Antoine Cahuzac, Group Executive Director in charge of the Renewable Energy Sector and Chairman and CEO of EDF Energies Nouvelles, added: “ The EDF group has recognized expertise in France and internationally in the development of all renewable energies. We are proud to play a leading role in the development of new solar production capacities in France. They complement our ambitions in the wind and hydraulic sectors. The Group thus strengthens its commitment to the energy transition ".
