In Guadeloupe, EDF Renewables signs an agreement with the Pôle-Relais Zones Humides Tropicales, an organization under the supervision of the French Committee of the IUCN

Pointe-à-Pitre, March 7, 2022 – EDF Renewables and the Pôle-Relais Zones Humides Tropicales (PRZHT), an organization under the supervision of the French Committee of the IUCN, have signed a 4-year partnership agreement, relating to the preservation of biodiversity.

This partnership will take shape on EDF Renewables' Petit-Canal wind farm, in operation since 1999. Located in the Gros Cap location, the 10 wind turbines coexist with ponds and wetlands which have been preserved.

The agreement provides in particular for the establishment of an educational land area. For three years, college students will ensure the animation and management of the ponds and their immediate environment. These ponds will also be made available as part of the “Restoration of Wetlands in Overseas” program. The PRZHT will collect data on their specificities, enriching scientific knowledge of tropical environments.

More broadly, this partnership will allow EDF Renewables and PRZHT to work together on the coexistence of natural sites and renewable electricity production installations, and will be used for all wind and solar projects developed in the Antilles.

This agreement is part of EDF Renewables' environmental policy in favor of biodiversity, as well as the EDF group's Corporate Social Responsibility commitments. In a proactive approach, EDF Renewables seeks the best technical and technological solutions to preserve fauna and flora as part of its projects.

Since 1999, EDF Renewables has had long-standing expertise in renewable energies in ZNIs (Non Interconnected Zones). The company actively contributes to local ambitions, the objectives of combating climate change, and the desire for energy autonomy by 2030 of overseas communities. The company also participates in the economic ecosystem of the territories with the presence of local teams (Caribbean and Indian Ocean agencies).

For Etienne Bouticourt, Overseas Development Manager at EDF Renewables: “ We are delighted with the signing of this partnership between EDF Renewables and the IUCN, which marks our commitment to the preservation of biodiversity. It will deepen our mutual knowledge of biodiversity for renewable installations already in operation near wetlands. This partnership will be structuring in our future developments. ".

For Gaelle Vandersarren of the Tropical Wet Zones Relay Center: “ This convention is a great opportunity for us to work on the identification and preservation of wetlands identified in Guadeloupe alongside renewable energy projects. ".

About the Tropical Wetlands Relay Pole (PRZHT)

The Tropical Humid Zones Relay Center (PRZHT), created in 2012 and run by the French Committee of the IUCN in partnership with the Conservatoire du Littoral, is a French initiative set up to better preserve tropical wetlands. Its aim is to work on all wetlands, both coastal and inland, in the French overseas territories located in the tropical zone in the three major ocean basins: Atlantic (French Antilles, Guyana), Indian Ocean (Mayotte). , Réunion, Scattered Islands) and Pacific (New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, French Polynesia). It is also committed to facilitating regional cooperation on the theme of preserving tropical wetlands, particularly mangroves but also ponds, marshes, peat bogs, mudflats, salt meadows and lagoons in these three regions.
