In France, the L'Oréal Group signs several contracts with the EDF group to contribute to the objective of carbon neutrality for all of its sites by 2025

Setting itself the ambitious environmental commitment to achieve carbon neutrality for all of its sites by 2025, including around thirty in France including its 11 factories, the L'Oréal Group signs several contracts with the EDF group which participate in the achievement of this objective:

  • direct purchase contracts for electricity from renewable sources (Corporate Power Purchase Agreement or C-PPA) with EDF Renouvelables, based on the production of two solar parks;
  • a contract with Agregio, to aggregate the production of these solar parks;
  • an electricity supply contract with EDF over 2024 and 2025 to supply the L'Oréal Group's production sites in France, integrating the volume of the PPA.

For 10 years, the leader in the cosmetics sector has been working with the EDF group to reduce its consumption and CO2 emissions, through optimized and specific solutions (water heating, ambient conditioning of premises, use of renewable and local energies , certification of guarantees of origin).

These direct purchase contracts for electricity from renewable sources concern the supply for 15 years of the entire production of two solar power plants to be built and operated by EDF Renewables. With these contracts, the L'Oréal Group will benefit from a controlled purchase price over the long term, will guarantee the renewable origin of the electricity thus purchased and will develop new capacities for its activities.

Located in Corrèze and the Vosges, and with a cumulative installed capacity of 27 MWp, these two solar power plants, whose commissioning is planned respectively by the third quarter of 2024 for the first and the second quarter of 2025 for the second , will produce the equivalent of 25% of the electricity consumption of the L'Oréal Group in France[1].

The signing of these two new contracts adds to the 5.3 GW of PPA of renewable origin signed by the EDF group worldwide since 2010, making the EDF group one of the major players in this sector. They register and participate in the ambitions of the EDF group's Solar Plan, which aims to become one of the leaders in photovoltaics in France by 2035.[2].

In support of this contract, Agregio, a subsidiary of EDF, will ensure that the intermittent energy of the two power plants is transformed into a firm volume of electricity, before transferring it to EDF as the electricity supplier of the L'Oréal Group in France.

Finally, EDF is renewing the L'Oréal Group's electricity supply contract, integrating the volume of the solar PPA as well as additional consumption coverage through guarantees of origin, for the years 2024 and 2025. This contract will allow supply the thirty French sites of the L'Oréal Group with green electricity[3].

With its sustainable development program “L'Oréal for the Future”, the L'Oréal Group is continuing its ambitious and proactive policy of decarbonizing its energy with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint of its 100% sites by 2025[4].

In line with its purpose, EDF aims to create services and solutions to support customers and territories in their objectives of reducing their carbon footprint.

Audrey Izard, Indirect Purchasing Director L'Oréal Group explains: “This PPA is in line with our commitments made as part of the L’Oréal for the Future Program in order to sustainably consume renewable energy for all of our activities. For L'Oréal, creating beauty that responsibly moves the world forward requires close collaboration with our partners. It is in this spirit of an extended ecosystem that we innovate and develop sustainable solutions with EDF. ".

Alexandre Levy, Director of PPAs in France at EDF Renewables declares: “We are proud to sign a new long-term partnership with the L’Oréal Group, and thus contribute to its decarbonization objectives. The production of our two future solar power plants will be added to that of another wind farm in operation which has already been supplying electricity for L'Oréal sites for two years. The EDF Renewables teams are keen to support companies in their energy ambitions for the Energy Transition, by offering low-carbon electricity supply solutions. ".

Sylvain Guédon, Managing Director of Agregio is delighted to support the L'Oréal Group in its energy transition and specifies: “Agregio plays the role of a transmission belt. From the production of the two solar parks, we guarantee L'Oréal the delivery of a fixed volume of energy over time. This low-carbon energy will make it possible to directly meet part of its consumption. It is therefore an additional brick to help companies reduce their carbon footprint. ".

Stanislas Landry, Key Account Director of EDF expresses its pride in continuing to innovate with the L'Oréal Group: “EDF's Large Accounts Department made it possible to bring together all the expertise of the EDF group specific to such a project. The ambitious objectives of the L'Oréal Group in its energy transition have found an echo in the raison d'être of the EDF group, and challenge us on subjects that are still recent in France such as PPAs. The simultaneous signing of these production, aggregation and supply contracts to build this solar PPA is a first for the EDF group. It shows our ability to meet the needs of our customers and anchors our excellent relationship between the L'Oréal Group and the EDF group. »
