Paris, March 5, 2021 – EDF Renewables won in the last CRE solar call for tenders known as “CRE 4.9 call for tenders”, a ground-mounted photovoltaic power plant project with a capacity of 5 MW, in Civaux in Vienne.
The project is located on a former sand quarry owned by the EDF Civaux power plant. With an installed capacity of 5 MW, the future plant will have around 12,500 panels. Its production will supply the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 2,500 people (heating included) each year, or more than twice the population of the commune of Civaux.
The Civaux solar power plant project was developed in consultation with local elected officials and local stakeholders. It will bring economic benefits to communities. The project will also be the subject of a crowdfunding campaign for local residents located near the future power plant.
After the solar power plant in operation in Jazeneuil, the Civaux photovoltaic power plant will be EDF Renewables' second in Vienne. Its construction and commissioning are planned for 2022.
Thibault Veyssière, West Regional Manager of EDF Renewables declared: “We are very happy to realize this solar power plant project which will coexist with the EDF nuclear power plant in Civaux. This is a great example of synergy for carbon-free energy production. EDF Renewables is developing more widely in the Vienne department nearly 230 MW of wind and solar projects, which will contribute to the energy transition of this territory. »
In France, a total of 13 ground-mounted photovoltaic power plant projects with a total capacity of nearly 75 MW were won by EDF Renewables during the latest calls for tenders from the Energy Regulatory Commission known as “Innovation 3 » and “CRE 4.9”. They are located locally in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Centre-Val de Loire, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie.
These successes thus reinforce the progress of the EDF group's Solar Plan which aims to make EDF a solar leader in France with 30 % market share by 2035.
