EDF Renewables launches a crowdfunding campaign for the construction of the first solar power plant in the Rhône department, in Saint-Romain-en-Gal

Lyon, October 11, 2021 – EDF Renewables announces the launch of a crowdfunding campaign for the construction of its solar power plant in Saint-Romain-en-Gal, in the Rhône department (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes). With a total amount of €100,000, the collection will allow the local population to invest, via the Lendosphere platform, in this future renewable installation which is scheduled to be commissioned in the 2nd quarter of 2022.

Involve residents in the construction of the Saint-Romain-en-Gal solar power plant
This collection, which starts on October 27, 2021 via the site www.lendosphere.com/saint-romain, aims to finance part of the construction of the Saint-Romain-en-Gal solar power plant, construction of which began in October.

In the amount of €100,000, this crowdfunding is reserved for:

  • from October 27 to November 4, 2021: to residents of the commune of St-Romain-en-Gal;
  • from November 5 to December 2, 2021: to residents of the Agglo Vienne Condrieu Community;
  • from December 3, 2021: to residents of the departments of Rhône, then Isère.

In order to answer residents' questions about crowdfunding for this project, EDF Renewables and Lendosphere are organizing an information hotline on Wednesday October 20, 2021 between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Saint-Romain-en-Gal village hall.1

Investing in sustainable economic recovery and energy transition
The Saint-Romain-en-Gal photovoltaic power plant project, with a total installed capacity of 5 MW, is made up of approximately 9,500 solar panels. From its planned commissioning in 2022, it will produce annually the equivalent of the average annual electricity consumption of around 2,900 people, or more than the number of inhabitants of the commune of Saint-Romain-en-Gal.

Located on the town's former waste storage center, this ground-mounted solar power plant is the first built in the Rhône department. The project contributes to the “Positive Energy Territory” approach initiated by the Vienne Condrieu Urban Community, which aims to reduce its energy needs as much as possible, through energy sobriety and efficiency, and to cover them by local renewable energies.

For EDF Renewables, it is about sustainably supporting territories in their low-carbon ambitions while generating economic benefits at the local level and preserving biodiversity. This plant is also the first solar power plant to be labeled “Positive Biodiversity”. It will put in place several environmental measures allowing the preservation of biodiversity such as respecting an environmental calendar or the installation of electrical substations with green roofs.

For Francis Audigier, EDF Renewables Regional Manager: “EDF Renewables supports local authorities in the energy transition and the fight against global warming. We are happy to extend the benefit of the economic benefits of the project to the inhabitants of the territory through this participatory financing. The protection of biodiversity is a priority in our projects. We are therefore delighted that the Syndicat Mixte des Rives du Rhône has labeled our project as part of its charter 'Territories with positive biodiversity'.”

1 The public will be welcomed in compliance with health measures linked to COVID 19.
