Paris, May 10, 2021 – EDF Renewables announces the launch of work to renew all the turbines of the Ersa and Rogliano wind farm which were installed in 2000. After 6 months of construction in 2020 focused on the deconstruction of the park wind power, the second phase of the project opens for a period of 18 months. Cap Corse will experience strong activity: earthworks, installation of electrical cables, then construction of new generation wind turbines. The new wind farm is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2022.
Subject to renewal, the new wind project consists of the installation of 13 new generation wind turbines (9 in the town of Ersa and 4 in the town of Rogliano) to replace the 20 wind turbines installed in 2000. The new park will produce the equivalent of the electrical needs of 15,000 inhabitants, twice as much as the total population of the Cap Corse community of communes, thus allowing them to benefit from locally produced renewable energy. It will contribute to the objectives of Corsica's Multiannual Energy Program (PPE), which provides for an increase of 38 % in electricity production from renewable energies by 2023.
The project will extend in total over a distance of 16 km and six municipalities in Cap Corse (Ersa, Rogliano, Centuri, Morsiglia, Meria and Luri). In addition, previously buried under the RD80 up to the Santa Severa electrical substation, in the municipality of Luri, the internal connection cable of the future wind farm will be replaced and also buried under the tracks through the mountain (crossing the municipalities of Morsiglia , Meria and Luri).
The new wind turbines will have a similar size to the old ones: the height of the mast will reach 45m (compared to 40m previously) and the diameter of the rotor will be 44m (compared to 43m previously), for a total height at the end of the blades of 67m. The 13 new wind turbines will have a total capacity of the same as the 20 previously installed, i.e. nearly 12 MW. However, taking advantage of technological developments in recent years, new wind turbines are more efficient, with a productivity gain of 25% compared to old ones.
Furthermore, the renewed wind farm will benefit from better acoustic and landscape performance. In fact, the installation of wind turbines was further away from the first homes and these new generation wind turbines are quieter than the previous ones.
When it is commissioned in 2022, the economic benefits (taxes, rents, construction) will benefit all the communities concerned by the project (the six municipalities, the Community of Communes of Cap Corse and the Collectivité de Corse) as well as to private owners affected by the rights-of-way, and to local companies which will work on the site.
David Augeix, South Regional Director of EDF Renewables, declared: “We are very happy to be able to continue to make our contribution to the ambitions and objectives of the Energy Transition of Corsica through the refurbishment of this Ersa – Rogliano park. The new generation wind turbines that we will install this year on this park will be more modern, more efficient and therefore more productive. This so-called “repowering” or renewal phase is an essential issue for optimizing the footprint while improving the production of renewable energy from our installations. »
