EDF Renewable Energy signs a contract with Google to supply 200 MW of wind energy in the United States

SAN DIEGO (November 30, 2017)EDF Renewable Energy, North American subsidiary ofEDF Energies Nouvelles, signed a contract with Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL), for the supply of 200 MW of installed capacity, generated by the Glacier Edge Wind Project in the state of Iowa.

The Glacier Edge wind project, located in Cherokee County in the northwest of the state, is expected to create more than 150 jobs during the construction phase, and inject several million dollars into the local economy. With the commissioning of the wind farm, scheduled for December 2019, the capacities thus provided will allow Google to achieve its objective, namely the purchase of a sufficient volume of renewable energy to offset its energy consumption under of its global activities.

Dai Owen, Power Marketing Director for EDF RE said: “ The large size of the U.S. wind market is driven in part by the corporate sector, with companies like Google leading the charge in purchasing wind power. a low-carbon economy. His commitment helped launch the Glacier Edge project and thus benefit Iowa's economy by creating jobs in construction and operations, broadening the tax base and generating revenue. long-term recurring for the owners concerned.

“Renewable energy generated by projects like Glacier Edge adds value to our business as we accordingly scale and accelerate investments in the communities in which we operate” said Gary Demasi, Google's director of global infrastructure. “Wind and solar are seeing their costs fall sharply and are contributing to job growth: the transition to clean energy is generating an unprecedented economic opportunity, more quickly than we anticipated.”

The partnership between EDF RE and Google dates back to December 2012, when Google took a stake of approximately $200M in the Spinning Spur wind project located in Oldham County, Texas. The commercial partnership was strengthened in 2016 with the electricity purchase agreement (PPA) with the Great Western Wind Project, in Oklahoma, which provides Google with 225 MW of installed capacity.

EDF RE is a major player in the development of renewable energy projects for companies sensitive to sustainable development issues, proof of the trust these companies have in EDF RE.
