EDF Renewable Energy and Kimberly-Clark announce the commissioning of the Rock Falls wind farm in the United States

SAN DIEGO (December 14, 2017) – The North American subsidiary ofEDF Energies Nouvelles, EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE), today announced the commissioning in the United States of the Rock Falls wind farm, with a total capacity of 154 MW. Few months ago, Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:KMB) signed a contract with EDF RE for the purchase of 120 MW of electricity that this renewable project will generate, a first for Kimberly-Clark.

Located in northern Oklahoma in Kay and Grant counties, the Rock Falls Wind Farm is made up of 60 turbines and various equipment made in the United States. The project has mobilized more than 150 jobs since construction began in July 2017, and has contributed several million dollars to the local economy.

“We salute the driving role of American companies, notably Kimberly-Clark, which, through the purchase of wind energy, are working towards a low-carbon economy.

Kimberly-Clark's commitment made the Rock Falls wind project possible. This project benefited the Oklahoma economy through the jobs mobilized in the construction and operation trades, the broadening of the tax base and the long-term income for the owners concerned” said Ryan Pfaff, Executive Vice President of EDF Renewable Energy.

“We welcome this partnership concluded with EDF Renewable Energy for the Rock Falls wind project. It marks an important step in Kimberly-Clark’s energy and climate strategy” underlined Lisa Morden, International Sustainable Development Manager at Kimberly-Clark.

Kimberly-Clark has several factories in North America (and other regions of the world), including a site in Jenks, Oklahoma, which manufactures tissues and napkins for the Kleenex, Scott, Cottonelle and Viva. “Thus, the electricity produced by the Rock Falls wind farm will allow the company to offset, up to 1.5 times, the greenhouse gas emissions linked to the electricity consumption of the site. Jenks » said Lisa Morden.

Rock Falls is EDF RE's second project in Oklahoma. In 2016, the Great Western wind farm, which supplies electricity to Google, had been put into service in this state.

With a contract portfolio of 930 MW, EDF RE is the leading player in the development of projects with companies, which, aware of environmental issues, choose to source electricity from renewable sources. Kimberly-Clark joins the growing number of companies in North America that purchase electricity from EDF RE, including Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, Walmart And Yahoo.

EDF Renewable Services, a leader in operations and maintenance services for renewable energy projects in North America, will provide all related services necessary for the installation.

EDF Renewable Energy is one of the leaders in the development of renewable energy projects in North America with an installed capacity of 9 GW in wind, solar, energy storage, in the United States, Canada and in Mexico.
