EDF power solutions acquires Gate Burton DCO solar and storage project in Linconlshire

EDF power solutions UK, previously EDF Renewables, has acquired the Gate Burton Energy Park project in Lincolnshire from Low Carbon.

Gate Burton is a consented 500MW project, having received approval from the Secretary of State, Ed Miliband, on 12th July 2024. Once operational, the project will be capable of delivering enough solar capacity to power approximately 160,000 homes while also providing critical flexibility to the grid through integrated battery storage.

Gate Burton will join EDF power solutions UK’s growing portfolio of nationally significant solar and storage projects, including Longfield in Essex — which received consent in June 2023 — as well as two other large-scale projects currently progressing through the planning process:  Springwell Solar Farm in Lincolnshire and Rosefield Solar Farm in Buckinghamshire.

Matthew Boulton, Director of Solar, Storage and Private Wire for EDF power solutions UK , said: This is a great example of how we are scaling up solar and storage to meet the UK’s future energy needs — creating jobs, supporting local communities, and delivering clean, affordable power.

We’re excited to bring this project into our growing portfolio and look forward to speaking with members of the local community throughout the next phase of the project prior to construction.

Roy Bedlow, Founder and Chief Executive at Low Carbon, said:We are delighted to finalise this agreement with EDF power solutions. Gate Burton was one of the first solar DCO projects to be consented by Ed Miliband shortly after last year’s general election and will help put the UK on the path to achieving its Clean Power 2030 ambition. We began developing Gate Burton in 2021 and I am proud of the immense amount of work undertaken on the project, which reinforces Low Carbon’s track record of delivering high-quality renewable assets. As Low Carbon continues to scale as an independent power producer, this agreement will play an important role supporting the build out of the rest of our renewable energy pipeline.

EDF power solutions will be working through the details of the consent order and the programme for delivery of the project, before engaging with stakeholders and the community on the plans to bring Gate Burton into construction.
