EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of the Bois de Belfays wind farm, in the Grand Est Region. The park, with an installed capacity of 20 MW, was inaugurated today.
This new wind installation contributes to the CAP 2030 ambition of the EDF Group, which aims to double its renewable capacities worldwide by 2030.
The Bois de Belfays wind project is located in three municipalities in the Vosges massif, Saâles, La Grande Fosse and Châtas, in the Grand Est region. The energy production of the wind farm, made up of 10 wind turbines of 2 MW of unit power, corresponds to the annual electricity needs of nearly 27,000 inhabitants.
From its beginnings, this project has been supported by the territory in which it is located. It was initiated by six municipalities located respectively in the Vosges and Bas-Rhin, Châtas, Grandrupt, La Grande Fosse, Saint-Stail, Ban-de-Sapt and Saâles, which own 20% of the installation.
In pursuit of this approach, the studies prior to its construction were co-financed by local residents as part of a crowdfunding campaign. The operation, which took place in the summer of 2015, made it possible to raise €135,000 from residents in particular of the municipalities where the park is located, exceeding the initial objective of €100,000.
With the Bois de Belfays wind farm, EDF Energies Nouvelles operates more than 394 MW of installed wind and solar capacity in the Grand Est region.
