EDF Energies Nouvelles winner of the ADEME “pilot farms for floating wind turbines” call for projects

The French government announced today that the Provence Grand Large Project, led by EDF Energies Nouvelles, is the winner of the call for projects for “floating wind turbine pilot farms” launched by ADEME in August 2015.

Located in the Faraman area off the coast of Marseille, the Provence Grand Large project managed by EDF Energies Nouvelles, will be carried out in partnership with Siemens for the supply of wind turbines and SBM Offshore for the design and manufacture of floats and offshore work in partnership with IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN).

This innovative project is a continuation of the efforts undertaken by EDF Energies Nouvelles since 2011 on this site, in partnership with local stakeholders. Its objective is to create a sector of French excellence.

Key figures
– 3 Siemens 8 MW wind turbines;
– the project will meet the annual electricity needs of around 40,000 inhabitants;
– located 17 km off Napoléon beach, in Port Saint Louis du Rhône;
– commissioning by 2020.
