EDF Energies Nouvelles acquires the specialist in the operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms OWS

EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the acquisition, via its subsidiary Reetec GmbH, of the German company Off-shore Wind Solutions GmbH (OWS), specialized in the operation and maintenance (O&M) of offshore wind farms. With this acquisition, EDF Energies Nouvelles confirms its development ambition in Germany and is strengthening its position in offshore wind power.

Founded in 2014, OWS operates and maintains the BARD Offshore 1 offshore wind farm, located 95 km from the German coast in the North Sea. This park is made up of 80 wind turbines of 5 MW each, for a total power of 400 MW. The acquisition of OWS is accompanied by the renewal of the maintenance contract for the offshore installation, for a period of 10 years, with its owner Ocean Breeze Energy.

With OWS, EDF Energies Nouvelles complements the operation-maintenance skills of its subsidiary REETEC, until now mainly active in onshore wind power and offshore installation activities. Reetec now has more than 350 operation-maintenance experts .

OWS also has a supervision and control center for offshore wind power located in Emden, a pioneering town for offshore wind power in Germany, located in direct proximity to numerous North Sea wind farms.

For Antoine Cahuzac, Executive Director of the EDF Group, in charge of Renewable Energies and Managing Director of EDF Energies Nouvelles: “We are pleased to welcome the OWS teams to share their unique experience of O&M activity in the offshore wind sector within EDF Energies Nouvelles. This operation is a great opportunity for the EDF Group which has strong ambitions in the development of offshore wind projects in France and internationally, in line with its CAP 2030 strategy to strengthen its presence in renewable energies by 2030 ".

Today in the world, EDF Energies Nouvelles operates in 11 countries, on nearly 14 GW of renewable installations, for its own account and third party accounts.
