EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of the Mont-Rothery wind farm in Quebec, via EDF EN Canada, the group's local subsidiary.
This 74 MW park is the seventh and last in the one gigawatt wind power program awarded to EDF EN Canada by Hydro-Québec Distribution.
The Mont-Rothery wind farm is located in the Regional County Municipalities (MRC) of La Haute-Gaspésie and La Côte-de-Gaspé in the province of Quebec. With an installed capacity of 74 MW, it is made up of 37 turbines with a unit capacity of 2 MW.
The electricity generated by this new installation corresponds to the annual energy consumption of around 15,000 homes. It is supplied to Hydro-Québec Distribution under a 20-year electricity purchase contract.
The operation and maintenance of the park will be ensured by EDF Renewable Services Inc. Canada, a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles dedicated to this activity.
Mont-Rothery is the last in the series of seven wind farms* developed, built and commissioned by EDF EN Canada following two calls for tenders launched by Hydro-Québec Distribution in 2008 and 2010 and relating to a program of a gigawatt.
With the finalization of this one gigawatt program in Quebec, the local subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles has already produced a total of 1,374 MW in Canada. To this will be added the completion of a 224 MW project won during a new call for tenders from Hydro-Québec Distribution in 2015.
