A consortium made up of EDF Energies Nouvelles, MEAG, the asset management subsidiary of Munich Re and ERGO, and GE Energy Financial Services, a division of General Electric, is purchasing 32 operating wind farms in France from Iberdrola.
These onshore wind farms, spread across the entire French territory and commissioned between 2006 and 2012, represent a total power of 321.4 megawatts. They are equipped with turbines built by different manufacturers. The electricity produced is marketed under long-term contracts according to the guaranteed feed-in tariffs defined by French regulations. The transaction amounts to 350 million euros and is accompanied by a price supplement of 50 million euros, conditional on the level of production over the next five years.
At the end of the operation, the finalization of which is subject to the approval of the competent regulatory authorities, the ownership of the wind farms will be distributed as follows: EDF Energies Nouvelles for 20 %, GE Energy Financial Services for 40 % and MEAG at height 40 %. EDF Energies Nouvelles will provide asset management and operation and maintenance services for the wind farms. All of these parks have 160 turbines. The consortium plans to re-equip some of the fleets with GE technology to increase their productivity and reliability.
Each member of the consortium stressed that this operation was consistent with its investment strategy in renewable energies.
“ This operation constitutes a very good opportunity for EDF Energies Nouvelles to complete its portfolio of wind energy assets in France and to expand its operation and maintenance activities. The professionalism of GE and MEAG and their knowledge of this industry allowed us to complete this acquisition on schedule. », declares Emmanuel Jaclot, executive director at EDF Energies Nouvelles.
“ This operation allows us to expand our portfolio with sustainable investments with controlled risks and attractive returns, drawing on the know-how of the entire Group. ", says Holger Kerzel, managing director of MEAG.
“ We are very pleased to partner with EDF Energies Nouvelles and MEAG for the acquisition of this significant portfolio of wind farms in operation in France. We intend to pursue further opportunities to grow our portfolio of renewable energy assets in Europe said Andrew Marsden, managing director and European head of GE Energy Financial Services.
Other details regarding this operation have not been revealed.
