EDF Renewables launches an innovative storage solution for businesses in Germany

Berlin, February 20, 2020 _ EDF Renewables offers an innovative storage offer in Germany for industrial and tertiary customers. It makes it possible to smooth the site's electricity consumption, to both reduce its customers' energy bills and lighten the load on the electricity network.

This new offer is based on intelligent management of the customer's electricity demand and the installation's storage capacity..

It is part of EDF's Electric Storage Plan, the objective of which is to be the leader in the sector in Europe, with the development of 10 GW of additional storage capacity by 2035.

EDF Renewables has just commissioned a battery storage solution in two Malteurop malt factories in Rostock and Heidenau in Germany. These installations are made up of lithium-ion batteries, connected to an intelligent and autonomous control system.

The solution designed by EDF Renewables makes it possible to provide each factory with a power of 200 kW with autonomy of at least one hour when the electricity network is heavily loaded. By smoothing its consumption peaks, Malteurop reduces its network access costs which in Germany depend on the maximum power required, while ensuring greater stability of the national electricity network.

The offers offered by EDF Renewables to German customers include, first of all, analysis, advice, project sizing, installation and connection to the network; then the operation and maintenance of the equipment; and finally optimization through battery management.

EDF Renewables supports the energy transition in Germany through the development, management and maintenance of wind assets. The company owns nearly 200 MW of capacity and operates an additional 600 MW on behalf of third parties, including 400 MW of offshore wind power in the North Sea.

The development of decentralized electricity storage on industrial and commercial sites provides an innovative solution to strengthen the reliability of the electricity network in a context of strong growth in renewable energies in the country.

Internationally, EDF Renewables and the Group's dedicated expertise benefit from know-how in the field of large storage batteries and micro-grids with installations in the United States, the United Kingdom and France.

For Frédéric Belloy, International Director of EDF Renewables: “With this battery storage system, EDF Renewables offers an innovative service to improve the energy management of industrial and tertiary sites in Germany. This solution is adapted to the needs of our customers who want to optimize their energy efficiency and reduce associated costs. In conjunction with local stakeholders, municipal public services, network operators and innovative companies, we are happy to contribute to the success of the energy transition in Germany. »

For Stéphane Tadyszak, Operations Director of Malteurop: “ Malteurop has been working for many years to improve the operational performance of its factories and reduce their environmental impact. This project, managed in partnership with the EDF Group, is important because it strengthens the integration of renewable energies and contributes to the success of the energy transition in Europe ".
