The Council of State validates the latest administrative authorizations for offshore wind farm projects in Fécamp and Courseulles-sur-Mer

EDF Renewables, a subsidiary of the EDF Group and its partners, Enbridge, a North American company specializing in energy infrastructure, and producer of renewable energy wpd welcome the decision rendered today by the Council of State, which rejects the appeals relating to the concession authorizations for occupation of the maritime public domain of wind farm projects at sea Courseulles-sur-Mer and Fécamp.

The two Norman projects of Courseulles and Fécamp will produce enough electricity to respectively cover the equivalent of the electricity consumption of nearly 630,000 people, or more than 90% of the inhabitants of Calvados, and more than 770,000 people, or more of 60% from the inhabitants of Seine-Maritime.

These projects are based on in-depth environmental studies and broad consultation carried out for more than 10 years by the consortium in the region with communities,
residents, sea users (in particular fishing professionals),
environmental associations, as well as local development actors
Economic and Social.

The judgment rendered by the Council of State will allow EDF Renewables, Enbridge and wpd to continue the development of the Fécamp and Courseulles projects.

The consortium was named winner of the three offshore wind projects of Courseulles-sur-Mer, Fécamp and Saint-Nazaire in 2012, during the first call for tenders organized by the French state. This decision comes after the judgment rendered by the Council of State on June 7, validating the authorization to operate the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind project.

Bruno Bensasson, EDF Group Executive Director in charge of the Renewable Energy Sector and Chairman and CEO of EDF Renewables, declared: “This decision by the Council of State once again confirms the quality of the projects developed by the EDF Renewables, Enbridge and wpd teams, who worked together to respond to the energy and economic challenges of the Normandy territories. With four projects in development, the EDF Group is consolidating its position as leader in offshore wind power in France and a major player in Europe. These large-scale projects are fully in line with EDF's Cap 2030 strategy, the objective of which is to double the Group's installed renewable energy capacities worldwide by 2030 to bring them to 50,000 MW. »

About the Courseulles-sur-Mer offshore wind project

The Courseulles-sur-Mer offshore wind project is managed by EDF Renewables, Enbridge and wpd.

The wind turbines will be located at more than 10 km of the coasts of Bessin.

The energy generated by the future offshore wind farm of nearly 450 MW will cover the equivalent of electricity consumption by almost of 630,000 people, or more than 90% from the inhabitants of Calvados.

The assembly of the wind turbines, at the logistics hub which will be located in Cherbourg, as well as the installation at sea will mobilize 200 people during the duration of the project. In the operating phase, around a hundred long-term local jobs will be mobilized to ensure the operation and maintenance of the wind farm at the port of Caen-Ouistreham.

About the Fécamp offshore wind project

The Fécamp offshore wind project is managed by EDF Renewables, Enbridge and wpd.

The wind turbines will be located between 13 and 22 km off Fécamp.

The electricity produced by the future installation of nearly 500 MW will be equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 770,000 people, or more than 60% of the inhabitants of Seine-Maritime.

The construction of the gravity foundations of the wind turbines will allow the mobilization of 600 people in the port of Le Havre during the construction period.

In the operating phase, around a hundred long-term local jobs will be mobilized to ensure the operation and maintenance of the wind farm from the port of Fécamp.
