EDF Renewables enters into exclusive negotiations for the acquisition of the Luxel Group, a solar player in France

EDF Renewables announces that it has entered into exclusive negotiations for the acquisition of the Luxel Group, an independent solar player in France. The Luxel Group, with a recognized team in photovoltaics, has nearly a peak gigawatt (1,000 MWp) of gross capacity in operation, ready to build or under development.

This operation aims to enable EDF Renewables to accelerate its ramp-up in photovoltaics in France. Through this acquisition, the EDF Group wishes to provide itself with additional means to implement its Solar Plan, which aims to achieve 30 % market share in solar in France between 2020 and 2035.

EDF Renewables, a leading player in renewable energies in France, operates more than a hundred onshore solar and wind installations totaling 1.8 GW gross installed power in France, including nearly 230 MWp gross solar.

Luxel has a fleet of nearly 90 MWp gross, operates nearly 130 MWp, mainly in the south of France and holds a portfolio of projects at various stages of development of around 900 MWp. The company employs a team of around forty photovoltaic specialists, spread between 6 development agencies and the head office, located in Pérols (Hérault).

A preliminary agreement, which opens a period of exclusive negotiations between the shareholders of the Luxel Group and EDF Renewables, has been concluded with the aim of reaching a final agreement for the acquisition of 100% of the capital of the Luxel group by EDF Renewables.

Bruno Bensasson, Executive Director of the EDF Group in charge of the Renewable Energy Sector and Chairman and CEO of EDF Renewables declared: “The acquisition of Luxel, a recognized and independent solar player in France, represents a great growth opportunity for EDF. The merger of the two companies and their teams will accelerate our development in solar energy in France. It is an industrial and human project, which will contribute to achieving the objectives of the EDF Solar Plan and the Multi-annual Energy Program. It is part of the group's strategy, Cap 2030, which aims to double EDF's renewable capacities between 2015 and 2030 to bring them to 50 GW net. »

“We are pleased with the proposed merger with EDF Renewables which should make it possible to constitute a leading player in the photovoltaic energy sector both in France and internationally. » declares Bruno Spinner, President of LUXEL.
