EDF Energies Nouvelles takes a position on the Moroccan market

The consortium led by EDF Energies Nouvelles, in partnership with the Japanese group Mitsui & Co., was selected as “preferred bidder” by the Moroccan ONE (National Electricity Office) for the Taza wind project, with a power of 150 MW. EDF Energies Nouvelles also announces the creation of a local subsidiary, EDF EN Maroc, which will manage the Group's development in Morocco.

Located in the north of Morocco, east of Fez, the Taza wind project will be equipped with 50 Alstom turbines, with a unit power of 3 MW. EDF Energies Nouvelles, Mitsui and Alstom will allocate at least 30% of construction work to Moroccan subcontracting companies.

This new 150 MW project, launched by ONE in May 2011 as part of a public-private partnership, will be followed in 2012 by a complementary call for tenders process covering 850 MW including the pre- qualification is in progress. With the desire to exploit extremely favorable sun and wind conditions, the Moroccan authorities plan to carry out by 2020 a program of at least 2 GW of wind energy and 2 GW of solar energy.

EDF Energies Nouvelles is also opening a subsidiary in Casablanca, EDF EN Maroc, owned at 100% by the Group, in order to manage the development of wind and solar activities in the country, in collaboration with the Moroccan authorities and local companies. EDF EN Maroc and Mitsui will lead the design, financing, development and construction of the Taza wind project. The two companies will also ensure the operation and maintenance of the wind farm as part of a 20-year agreement.

“ We are very happy to have the chance to carry out this high-quality wind project, which will represent the first achievement of EDF Energies Nouvelles in Morocco. This demonstrates EDF EN's ability to develop perfectly adapted local solutions and to meet the needs of public authorities in terms of green electricity production and industrial integration. », declares Fabienne Demol, Director of New Affairs at EDF Energies Nouvelles. “ The ONE's decision concerning the Taza wind project constitutes a great opportunity for EDF EN to establish a long-term partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco and to participate in the implementation of renewable projects in a country with high energy potential. development. »
