EDF Energies Nouvelles takes a position in Poland

Continuing to develop its international activities, EDF Energies Nouvelles announces a double acquisition in Poland: that of the Polish development company, Starke Wind, as well as that of the Linowo wind project, with a capacity of 48 MW. EDF Energies Nouvelles also announces the creation of a local subsidiary, EDF EN Polska, which will manage its development in the country.

These two acquisitions were concluded in an economic and regulatory environment favorable to the development of renewable energies in Poland. The country has in fact set a target of 6 GW of wind capacity by 2020, compared to 1.6 GW at the end of 2011, offers good wind conditions, and is currently working to give even more visibility to investors.

The acquisition of Starke Wind, a Polish development company, allows EDF Energies Nouvelles to establish its presence in the country thanks to an experienced local team and a promising portfolio of wind projects totaling around 650 MW. Construction of two of these projects, 58 MW and 28 MW, could be launched in 2013 and a set of projects of around 150 MW are at an advanced level of development. The development teams and the founder of the company remain in place to ensure the handover. In accordance with EDF Energies Nouvelles' policy of establishing itself in new countries, the price offered for the purchase of the company includes a significant portion of price supplements linked to obtaining all necessary authorizations and commissioning. of the most advanced projects in the portfolio.

The acquisition of the Linowo wind project also offers EDF Energies Nouvelles the possibility of having operating assets in the very short term. Located in northern Poland, in the Grudziadz region, this wind project is in fact currently under construction. Equipped with 24 Vestas turbines, the park should be commissioned at the end of 2012.

It is in this context that EDF Energies Nouvelles is opening a subsidiary in Warsaw, EDF EN Polska, owned by 100%, which will bring together all of EDF Energies Nouvelles' assets in the country and lead the development of its activities. These operations complement the activities of the EDF Group, present in Poland for 14 years through EDF Polska, which is among other things the leader in the production of energy from biomass.

“ These two acquisitions constitute an excellent opportunity for EDF Energies Nouvelles to quickly and solidly take a position in this key country for the EDF group and which presents strong development potential and in which EDF EN has the ambition to become an important player in the wind power », declares Fabienne Demol, Executive Director – New Affairs of EDF Energies Nouvelles.
