The EDF Group reaches the gigawatt of wind energy installed in France

EDF announces the acquisition, via its subsidiary EDF Energies Nouvelles, of two wind farms with a total capacity of 44 MW, located in the Meuse (Trois-Sources) and in the Doubs (Lomont), in service since 2007 and 2008.

With this acquisition, which follows several commissioning of wind farms throughout the country, the Group reaches the milestone of 1 gigawatt of installed power in onshore wind power in France. It confirms its position as No. 2 in France in the sector as well as its commitment to our country's energy transition.

Several projects illustrate the Group's development on the French market, 2th wind power in Europe:

  • 25 MW were put into service in Champagne-Ardenne and Picardy at the end of 2014, representing the annual consumption of more than 22,000 inhabitants.
  • The operation of the Catalan Wind Ensemble, a major project, began last June with the commissioning of a 1time tranche of 44 MW. Located in Languedoc-Roussillon, a region totaling 30% of EDF's wind assets in France, this project is characterized by the use for 1time time of innovative technology: discreet blades which minimize the impact on weather radars.
  • Finally, more than 100 MW of wind projects under construction will be commissioned in 2016.

Internationally, onshore wind power constitutes the Group's main area of development in new energies, with a presence in 15 countries and 6.8 GW installed as of June 30, 2015.

For Antoine Cahuzac, Group Executive Director in charge of the Renewable Energy Sector and Managing Director of EDF Energies Nouvelles, As part of EDF's CAP 2030 strategy, we have set ourselves the objective of doubling our installed capacities in renewable energies globally. Reaching the gigawatt milestone for onshore wind power in France demonstrates this commitment and constitutes a significant step in strengthening our positions in our country.»
