EDF Renewables launches with Lendosphere its first crowdfunding campaign for the renewal of the Oupia wind farm, in Hérault (Languedoc-Roussillon)

Paris, May 2, 2023 – EDF Renewables is launching a crowdfunding campaign via Lendosphere for its first wind farm renewal in mainland France: the Oupia wind farm located in Hérault. The collection, open from May 2 to June 11, will allow the local population to invest in the wind farm. This crowdfunding campaign is open to residents of the departments of Hérault (34), Aude (11), Aveyron (12), Gard (30) and Tarn (81).

Renewal or “repowering” corresponds to the dismantling of a wind farm reaching the end of its cycle in order to replace all the wind turbines with the latest generation machines, more reliable and more robust.

The Oupia wind farm, originally developed, built and commissioned by EDF Renewables in 2004 and made up of 9 wind turbines, provided the equivalent of the annual consumption of around 9,000 inhabitants.

The new wind turbines will produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of around 25,000 people. The park's old wind turbines will be recovered and reinstalled on a new site where they will continue to produce electricity from renewable sources.

The new wind turbines at the Oupia wind farm will be installed by this summer for the park to be commissioned in the last quarter of 2023.

Crowdfunding of €200,000 makes it possible to involve residents in the energy transition of their territory while benefiting from economic benefits, and to decarbonize their savings through participation in a short-circuit project.

EDF Renewables currently has 8 renewable energy production projects including that of Oupia in the Hérault department, including 6 wind projects with a total capacity of 129 MW.

EDF Renewables crowdfunding
5,000 private investors have been able to participate in the construction of renewable installations to the tune of 10 million euros over 60 collections in France since 2015. Open mainly to local residents living near solar, onshore and offshore wind projects, crowdfunding initiated by the EDF group constitutes a significant lever to meet the growing demand from individuals to be able to invest in the energy transition of their territory while benefiting from economic spinoffs.
