EDF Renewables launches the installation of the first panels of the Salon-de-Provence photovoltaic power plant

Salon-de-Provence, January 24, 2023 – The ground-mounted photovoltaic power plant in Salon-de-Provence, developed by EDF Renewables, is currently under construction along the Durance canal. Located on the grounds of the hydroelectric power station operated by EDF Hydro Méditerranée, it makes it possible to produce more renewable energy in the region.

This photovoltaic plant is part of EDF's Solar Plan which aims to make the Group a leader in solar energy in France by 2035. It also contributes to achieving the objectives set by the French government of 100 GW of solar energy by 2050, in favor of the fight against climate change.

Nearly 6,000 solar panels will be installed on approximately 3.5 hectares. With a total power of 3.4 MWp, once commissioned, this plant will produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of nearly 2,225 people, a little more than the population of Lamanon (13).

The photovoltaic project obtained administrative authorizations in September 2020. It is the winner of the Call for Tenders from the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE), allowing it to benefit from a purchase price of electricity for 20 years.

Work began in the second half of 2022 with earthmoving operations. Today, the first photovoltaic panels are being installed and installation will continue until spring 2023.

Residents of the departments 13, 30, 83 and 84 were able to contribute €85,000 to financing the construction of the power plant. This crowdfunding was set up from June 20 to August 20, 2022 by EDF Renewables with Lendosphere. In just a few days, the amount was reached with 55 investors.

Today, EDF Renewables operates 12 photovoltaic power plants in the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region totaling 100 MWp including a floating solar power plant in Lazer, installed on the water reservoir of an EDF Hydro Méditerranée hydroelectric dam .
