SNSM partners with EDF Renewables to improve its energy efficiency and complete the training of its rescuers on interventions in Wind Farms

On the occasion of the Paris boat show, SNSM and EDF Renewables today signed a partnership agreement in the service of maritime safety and the saving of human life at sea.

As part of this sponsorship, two distinct components are planned to support the SNSM in improving its knowledge of offshore wind farms as well as in its approach to optimizing the energy impact of its buildings.

Training on offshore wind power for the benefit of volunteer rescuers

In order to enrich the skills of Sea Rescuers, EDF Renewables provides training modules tailor-made training provided in e-learning, dedicated to offshore wind power for the benefit of SNSM volunteers. These training modules will allow Sea Rescuers to better understand the infrastructure and operation of an offshore wind farm, as well as the specificities of emergency management in this specific area where navigation is regulated.

Practical implementations have already started for the SNSM, including participation in an evacuation exercise of the wind farm substation by the Sea Rescuers of Pornichet and Le Croisic last July, in order to guarantee the safety of the site and occupants.

Support for the energy renovation of SNSM buildings

The SNSM is engaged in a multi-year plan aimed at improving the general performance and more specifically the energy efficiency of its buildings. EDF Renewables will support the SNSM by making available all of the Group's know-how, in order to carry out a complete diagnosis of several SNSM infrastructures. The first three training centers have been identified to benefit from this advice : the SNSM training and intervention centers of Caen, Marseille and Orléans.

These diagnostics will allow the SNSM to better evaluate the energy score of its buildings. This will be followed by recommendations in the choice of service providers and the financial contribution from EDF Renewables to the overall cost of this work of €400,000 over 2 years.

These two parts of the partnership constitute a real sharing of know-how in favor of safety at sea and significant financial support for the association, whose operation relies nearly 70 % on the generosity of the public and corporate sponsors.

Cédric Le Bousse, Director of Marine Renewable Energy France at EDF Renewables noted : " We are pleased to sign this partnership agreement with SNSM with whom we work closely within the framework of our future offshore wind farms in France, namely, Saint-Nazaire now in operation, the Provence Grand Large projects, Fécamp and Calvados all under construction, as well as the Dunkirk project in development. This partnership constitutes a real sharing of know-how between EDF Renewables and SNSM. Thus, during the construction and operation phases, safety at sea alongside the SNSM is a priority within our wind farms. And, as a low-carbon energy producer, it also seemed obvious to us to ensure energy efficiency in the SNSM's training and intervention centers, the best energy being that which we do not consume. .".

ABOUT THE SNSM :

The SNSM is a non-profit association – recognized as being of public utility and named Great National Cause in 2017. Its main missions are sea rescue and beach surveillance. It is based on 8,800 volunteers who work from 208 rescue stations throughout France (mainland and overseas), 32 training and intervention centers and 250 first aid stations on the beaches. The SNSM also has a National Training Center (PNF) based in Saint-Nazaire and two maintenance workshops based in Saint-Malo and Palavas-les-Flots. It is financed mainly by private resources from the generosity of the public and businesses. In 2021, Sea Rescuers took care of nearly 32,000 people: 13,600 rescued, 17,100 treated and 1,200 children lost and found.
