EDF Renewables launches a crowdfunding campaign for the construction of the Saumur solar power plant in Maine-et-Loire

Paris, September 15, 2021 – EDF Renewables announces the launch of a crowdfunding campaign for the Saumur photovoltaic power plant, currently under construction in Maine-et-Loire, in the Pays de la Loire region. With a total amount of €96,000, the collection will allow the local population to invest, via the Lendosphere platform, in this future renewable installation which is scheduled to be commissioned in mid-2022. From September 6 to 20, this Crowdfunding is open exclusively to residents of the Saumur Val de Loire urban community, then to residents of the Maine-et-Loire and neighboring departments: Vendée, Loire-Atlantique, Mayenne, Sarthe, Indre-et-Loire , Vienne and Deux-Sèvres, from September 21.

Involve residents in the construction of the Saumur solar power plant
This collection, which starts today via the site www.lendosphere.com/saumur, aims to finance part of the construction of the Saumur solar power plant, located on the site of the former Chemin Vert recycling center, dating from 1970 and closed in the 2000s. With a total power of nearly 10 MW, the Saumur photovoltaic power plant is made up of around 25,000 panels. From its planned commissioning in 2022, it will produce annually the equivalent of the average annual electricity consumption of around 5,000 inhabitants.
Work on the power station will begin this month with site preparation: clearing the land, earthmoving and building tracks and platforms. The construction site will end with the implementation of landscaping measures aimed at making this power station located in an urban environment imperceptible.

Set at €96,000, crowdfunding is reserved for:

  • To the inhabitants of the agglomeration community of Saumur Val de Loire, from 6 to
    September 20;
  • To the inhabitants of the departments: Maine-et-Loire, Vendée, Loire-Atlantique,
    Mayenne, Sarthe, Indre-et-Loire, Vienne and Deux-Sèvres, from September 21.

Investing in sustainable economic recovery and energy transition
Crowdfunding like that of the Saumur solar power plant constitutes an essential lever to meet the growing demand from individuals to engage in the development of renewable projects close to their homes. For EDF Renewables, it is about sustainably supporting territories in their low-carbon ambitions while generating economic benefits at the local level.

For Thibault Veyssière, West Regional Manager of EDF Renewables: “This project represents an unprecedented challenge of integrating a photovoltaic power plant in the heart of a town and a territory with a particularly rich architectural, historical and wine heritage. The challenge therefore consists of both revalorizing a polluted site and successfully integrating the park into a densely populated urban city center protected for its remarkable heritage. We are pleased that crowdfunding also allows residents to contribute to the local development of renewable energies while benefiting from financial income from the project. ".
