Successful crowdfunding for the Vallée des Baux-Alpilles solar power plant, in Bouches-du-Rhône

It took just one month to successfully close the crowdfunding launched by LUXEL, a subsidiary of EDF Renewables, dedicated to the construction of a solar power plant located in the municipalities of Maussane-les-Alpilles and Le Paradou. In total, 102 people invested €300,000 in this project which will be put into service at the beginning of 2022.

The terms of this investment (yield, duration, etc.) remain available on the Lendosphere platform: www.lendosphere.com/maussane

Opened on June 18, crowdfunding for the construction of the Maussane-les-Alpilles and Le Paradou solar power plant amounted to €300,000. This amount was fully subscribed on July 19, thanks to the investments of 102 people, who placed sums between €100 and €10,000 – minimum and maximum amounts set for this operation.

This crowdfunding was reserved primarily for residents of the Vallée des Baux-Alpilles community of communes: 17 local residents invested €70,100, or 23 % in total. Then, from July 3, it was open to residents of Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, Vaucluse and Gard. This territorial exclusivity encourages the use of short-circuit savings and allows direct economic benefits for the local citizens of the project. It is also an opportunity for them to reduce the carbon footprint of their savings by investing in this renewable energy installation.

Through this operation, the inhabitants of the departments concerned have become shareholders of the solar power plant and are contributing to the financing of the work which is in progress. The first photovoltaic panels were installed in July 2021 and the commissioning of the plant is planned for early 2022.

Made up of 20,800 panels and a total power of 8.5 MWp, the future photovoltaic plant will produce 12.7 GWh per year, the equivalent of the average annual electricity consumption of around 5,200 inhabitants*. Avoided atmospheric emissions are estimated at 3,150 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Involve residents in the energy transition of their territory
“The Vallée des Baux-Alpilles power plant meets all the criteria for the development of renewable energies requested by the State. Throughout its operation, it will cover more than the annual electricity needs of the entire population of the two municipalities hosting the photovoltaic plant: Maussane-les-Alpilles and Le Paradou. Almost ¼ of the collection was financed by the inhabitants of the intercommunality. By getting involved in this way, the local population is investing directly in the local energy transition,” declares Mathieu Pinchard, Director of Grand Sud Projects for LUXEL.

*2,457kWh per inhabitant per year: average value calculated on the basis of residential consumption of
Continental France in 2016 (158.5 TWh) reduced to the population (64.5 million inhabitants).
