Paris, February 9, 2021 – The Mont des Quatre Faux wind farm project, developed by EDF Renewables and Windvision, is the winner of the Government's call for tenders, the results of which have just been announced.
The Mont des Quatre Faux wind project is located about fifteen kilometers south of Rethel, in the Ardennes department (Grand Est). It concerns the seven municipalities of Bignicourt, Cauroy, Hauviné, Juniville, La Neuville-en-Tourne-à-Fuy, Mont-Saint-Remy and Ville-sur-Retourne.
With a capacity of 226 MW, the project will meet the electricity consumption of around 250,000 inhabitants, almost the population of the Ardennes.
The wind project has been the subject of close dialogue for several years with the municipalities concerned and their residents. This consultation was essential to define the wind turbine installation plan best suited to the local context and to ensure that the wind farm will contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
EDF Renewables and Windvision have signed a social and environmental commitment charter with the Ardennes Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ardennes Construction Federation and the Ardennes Chamber of Trades and Crafts. Thus, throughout the duration of the project, a volume of activity will be reserved for people in professional integration and companies will have to commit to implementing an environmental clause in the form of a carbon footprint, to maintain high environmental quality.
Once the wind farm is commissioned, EDF Renewables plans to open a local maintenance branch for the future park and the technicians who will work there will mainly be recruited from the department.
The project has administrative authorization which has been the subject of a legal appeal. Subject to the favorable judgment of the administrative court of appeal, the final investment decision is expected in 2022. This will involve an investment of more than 250 million euros.
Nicolas Couderc, France Director of EDF Renewables, declares: “We are very pleased that the Mont des Quatre Faux project is the winner of the call for tenders. This onshore wind project, the most powerful in France, is the result of several years of consultation with elected officials and residents and the work of our teams. A leading player in renewable energies in France, EDF Renouvelables confirms, with this project, its ambitions and its capacity to develop competitive projects in close collaboration with local stakeholders to support territories in their energy transition. »
“This large-scale project is the result of several years of work and fruitful collaboration between EDF Renewables and Windvision. We are particularly happy with the trust and support given to us by the municipalities and their inhabitants throughout the development phase of this wind farm. With a capacity of 226 MW, the park will actively contribute to the transition territorial energy », says Simon Neerinckx, CEO of Windvision.
