EDF Renewables is announcing that it has acquired the LUXEL Group, an independent solar energy player in France. LUXEL holds a portfolio of one gigawatt peak (1 GWp) of projects already in operation, ready to build or under development.
This acquisition will contribute to accelerate EDF Renewables’ growth in solar energy and bring it a step closer towards achieving the objectives in the Solar Plan, which aims to establish the EDF Group as France’s leader in photovoltaic energy, with a 30% market share between 2020 and 2035.
Thanks to this acquisition, EDF Renewables, a leading player in France’s renewable energies sector, now operates 320 MWp in gross photovoltaic capacity nationwide across more than one hundred facilities. The Group is also expanding its portfolio of photovoltaic projects under development by approximately 900 MWp.
The acquisition of the LUXEL Group also helps to strengthen EDF Renewables’ development teams with the addition of around 40 renowned specialists in photovoltaic energy, split between Luxel’s head office in Pérols (Hérault department) and six development offices across France.
“The acquisition of LUXEL, which has a high-quality portfolio of projects and experienced teams, significantly strengthens EDF Renewables’ position in the French solar energy segment and will bolster its efforts to achieve the ambitious targets in EDF’s Solar Plan. This transaction is also perfectly aligned with the Group’s Cap 2030 strategy of doubling its installed renewable energy capacity around the world between 2015 and 2030”, commented Bruno Bensasson, EDF Group’s Senior Executive Vice President, Renewable Energies and Chairman & CEO of EDF Renewables.
“Given EDF’s goals in the solar energy segment and the company’ guiding values, EDF Renewables’ business proposal appeared to be the most compelling option for LUXEL and our employees. We are delighted to be joining forces with the EDF Group, and we hope the tie-up will sustain and speed up LUXEL’s development, which we had previously pursued independently with our teams”, added Bruno Spinner, Chairman of LUXEL.
