EDF Energies Nouvelles and ArcelorMittal Méditerranée are announcing the commissioning of the 12 MWp La Fossette photovoltaic power plant in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of south-eastern France.
The project was built in connection with the EDF Group’s Cap 2030 strategy, which aims to double its renewable energy capacity by 2030. ArcelorMittal Méditerranée’s objective was to facilitate the renewable energy production by making available a portion of its industrial lands.
The La Fossette solar power plant, located in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, was developed and built by EDF Energies Nouvelles in the Fos-sur-Mer industrial and port complex on land owned by ArcelorMittal. The steelmaker, which owns 1,600 hectares, has made 15 hectares available to EDF Energies Nouvelles.
Equipped with over 45,000 photovoltaic panels, the 12 MWp solar plant generates the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 7,400 inhabitants, which represents half of the Fos-sur-Mer population.
Up to 40 people were involved in the 10-month-long construction of the plant.
With this project, EDF Energies Nouvelles has further strengthened its presence in renewable energies in France. To date, the company operates close to 1.5 GW in wind and solar energy capacity in France.
