CONSTRUCTION OF THE FIRST WIND FARM IN THE NORMAN SEA IN FÉCAMP: FINALIZATION OF THE FIRST GRAVITY FOUNDATION

The Fécamp offshore wind project reached an important milestone in February 2022 with the finalization of its first gravity foundation in the large seaport of Le Havre. This stage follows several months of formwork work, reinforcement, concreting, painting and installation of equipment.

Supported by EDF Renewables, EIH S.à.rl owned by Enbridge Inc. and CPP Investments, as well as by wpd, the future Fécamp offshore wind farm, made up of 71 wind turbines located more than
13 km off the coast, will be the first in Normandy. When it comes into service at the end of 2023, this park, with a capacity of nearly 500 MW, will produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 770,000 people, or 60 % of the inhabitants of Seine-Maritime.

The construction of gravity foundations: a large-scale project in the port of Le Havre

The consortium made up of Bouygues Travaux Publics, Saipem and Boskalis is responsible for
the construction, transport and installation at sea of the gravity foundations on which the wind turbines will rest. Each foundation weighs 5,000 tonnes and measures 31 meters in diameter at its base. The height of the foundation, ranging from 48 to 54 meters, depends on its location at sea.

Started 14 months ago, the project mobilized more than 1,000 employees at peak activity. Manufacturing of the remaining foundations will continue until summer 2022.

From the beginning of summer 2022, the transport and installation at sea of the foundations will be carried out using the Saipem 7000, one of the largest Heavy Lift Vessels in the world. Boskalis will prepare the seafloor under the foundation then ballast the foundation once laid.

The offshore work on the park will continue until the end of 2023.
